SD Music Video Premiere – featuring ‘The Cat’s Pajamas’

Miz Mandy, Releases Two New Music Videos with a San Diego Red Carpet Premiere on Saturday October 27th, 2012 at Flavor Del Mar

Since releasing her third album, MouseTrap, in late 2011, Miz Mandy has filmed two music videos, ‘Rising Sun’ and ‘The Cat’s Pajamas’. Filmed with two separate crews at different times of the year, Miz Mandy will publicly premiere both videos in San Diego on Saturday October 27th at Flavor Del Mar. ‘Rising Sun’ will be available for online viewing immediately following, whereas ‘The Cat’s Pajamas’ will not be made available until December of 2012

San Diego, CA. (PRWEB) October 05, 2012 – Pop singer, Miz Mandy, released her third album, ‘MouseTrap’, in late 2011. Produced by Los Angeles songwriter and composer, Ryan Franks, Miz Mandy claims that the new musical direction will challenge her fans “musically and lyrically. It’s very different from my past albums, but I think people will love it.” Ryan Franks agrees, “The fusing of dirty, trashed out synthesizer parts, lush strings, heavy grooves and some cool twists and turns in the vocals has created a different sound.” http://www.MizMandy.com/

Miz Mandy calls the new sound “Cinematic pop/rock” and says that she wrote the lyrics from the point of view of “a femme fatale, a desperate housewife or a Bond girl.” By Bond girl, she is referring to one particular track, ‘The Cat’s Pajamas’. The song is about a female double agent hired to kill a handsome male agent. She’s staking him at the pool and she is caught between doing what she is hired to do and what she really wants to do. “This song was just meant to be a video.” She said.

Mandy contracted with Illinois native and Director of her first music video, Frank Rice. “When Mandy came to me about doing a video, I instantly became excited. I loved the song… [The Cat’s Pajamas] has a very catchy chorus and I liked the play on the words. She uses a lot of metaphors to convey her feelings toward someone. I like that… Not too direct or literal.” He said. “I formed my vision based on Mandy’s lyrics. I know Mandy likes the quirky, kinda out-of-place stuff, but I felt that this song needed to be kept on a serious level. That steered my vision into shooting it more like a movie, rather than a traditional music video.” http://www.frankjricejr.com

Rice, who has directed music videos for JMD Records/Universal Music Group continues, “I reached out to my good friend and co-director, Nick Lam, for his technical and third eye expertise. He has a way of seeing things a little different, which helped with the many ideas and shots.”

Nicholas Lam, who has directed commercials for BMW, Proctor & Gamble and the Democratic National Committee, and TV pilots for E! Entertainment, CBS, 20th Century Fox, BET and Bravo Networks, described the song as, “sultry and fun, with just the right amount of edge to give it a Bond-like sheen without coming across as campy or contrived.” http://www.nicholaslam.com/

They all met a few times to talk about the details and the date was set. Associate Producer Nick Gibeault started to bring the different entities together: crew, budget and cast. “I love producing because challenges always arise, and I learn something new with every shoot.”

The treatment and shot list were created. Props and set décor were purchased, borrowed or made. And Mandy located her 60’s style costumes through local vintage thrift stores. A self-proclaimed lover of vintage, Mandy said, “I have quite a few stores that I regularly frequent and my collection of one-of-a-kind pieces has really grown. I wanted authentic costuming for the video, so I made my rounds and came up with what I found was the right look.”

The directors chose to go with long-time collaborator and veteran cinematographer Nicolas Martin, who has shot videos for such big names as Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, and Rihanna. No expense was spared in the making of the video, utilizing dual RED Epic cameras, a 26ft crane, a 3-ton lighting package and a state-of-the-art steadicam. Frank adds, “’The Cat’s Pajamas’ was shot in 5k, allowing for a better cinematic feel and look.”

The video was shot in one full day in July at a private location in San Diego, California. The crew consisted of: Emmy Award winning Producer Andy Dugan, Director of Photography Nicolas Martin, Steadicam Operator Nathan Stern, Camera Assistant Marie Amelie-Martin, Gaffer Morgan Mercier, Grip Chuck Bo, Make-Up and Hair Artist Bria Flores, Assistant Alyssa Chrencik, and Stylist LaFawn Wesson.

Frank Rice complimented the crew. “This crew really set the new standard. I’ve worked on sets where there were twice the crew members, and stuff didn’t get done.” With around 50 cast members, the majority of the shots consisted of the morning outdoor pool scene and the evening indoor casino scene.

“The only obstacle we were fighting was the rapidly setting sun, and the need to be quiet after 8pm. So really, it was just a race against the clock the entire time. But, we pulled it off like champs” Nick Lam boasts. “Mandy takes direction well, is generous and selfless in the performance she puts forth, never acts a diva, and handles stress well. She speaks to others with ease and grace and was willing to work with me in every aspect of production.”

Frank agreed “There were several issues that came up, but again, like she always does, she finds a way to make it happen. That’s what I like best about her. No excuses, just results. I always enjoy Mandy. We just get each other and that makes it a great experience.”

“I really enjoyed myself, but there wasn’t any time for hanging out or even eating,” Mandy says. “I was constantly in hair and make-up or a costume change. But I loved the challenge of acting as this character, and it was a blast. The crew really worked well together.”

After filming was wrapped, the footage was sent to Editor Jacob Voelzke. Several notes and edits were made, and shortly thereafter, the final cut was sent to Colorist Nathan Pena. The entire editing process took less thank two months.

They all hope that upon public release, that the video receives airtime on local networks, MTV2 or VH1 underground rotation. Frank adds, “A lot of my friends have already bought the song from itunes.”

Both ‘Rising Sun’ and ‘The Cat’s Pajamas’ were received well at a cast and crew screening in Hollywood on September of 2012. Both videos will officially be premiered on Saturday October 27th from 7:00pm – 11:00pm in San Diego County, CA. Located in the famous Del Mar Plaza, Flavor Del Mar will accommodate the Premiere, which is free and open to the public. The event will include a red carpet entrance, DJ, and the cast and crew of both music videos, which will be shown on a large projection screen around 8:30pm. Guests may RSVP at:

San Diego’s Channel 6 interviewed Miz Mandy about the music videos and event in the last week of September. The San Diego Entertainer and Lifestyles TV show will air Miz Mandy’s interview on Channel 6 CW on Sunday October 7th at 5:00pm PST.

‘Rising Sun’ was covered in a previous press release (September 2012) and the video will be available for online viewing immediately following the San Diego Premiere, whereas ‘The Cat’s Pajamas’ will not be made available online until December of 2012. Nicholas Lam laughs, “What would a cat really look like in pajamas?”

Los Angeles Preview Party Update – featuring Rising Sun

Recording Artist, Miz Mandy, announces a pre-release viewing party for two new music videos ‘Rising Sun’ and ‘The Cat’s Pajamas’ on Friday September 21st at Saint Felix Hollywood.

Billboard charting artist Miz Mandy switched her musical direction to a Cinematic Pop/Rock sound on her newest album ‘Mousetrap’. Filming and editing of video footage for her first two singles, ‘Rising Sun’ and ‘The Cat’s Pajamas’ have wrapped. Miz Mandy, along with cast and crew, will celebrate the completion of the music videos with a public pre-release preview party at Saint Felix Hollywood on Friday September 21st from 8:30pm – 11:30pm.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) September 17, 2012 — In 2010, pop singer, Miz Mandy, partnered with Los Angeles based music producer, Ryan Franks, to co-write and produce her third pop album, ‘Mousetrap’. Released in November of 2011, Ryan describes the album as “a little retro, a little film score, a little sleazy, and a little mean.“ Miz Mandy says the new album “has a real cinematic feel. What better way to showcase the characters, stories and emotion of the album than to produce music videos?” www.MizMandy.com

Miz Mandy contracted with writer and director, Amelia Yokel, for the first music video project, ‘Rising Sun’. Producing for over ten years with an emphasis on music videos, Amelia says ‘Rising Sun’ is “one of the more upbeat and carefree songs on the album. It’s as though Mandy is speaking to the world and saying, ‘We can do this together, don’t give up.’” They began collaborating on the video over the summer of 2011. www.YokelPower.com

“Amelia is a woman of vision and ambition, and I loved her idea of a pied piper parade for the video,” said Miz Mandy. “She was so organized and thorough, I trusted her to run with it.” The video concept featured Miz Mandy, dressed as ringleader, gathering people and characters of all kinds to come together. Scenes consist of spreading the word via light signals, paper airplane invitations, posted fliers, and calling all to join by leading a parade throughout the mountains, neighborhoods and city.

They began with a treatment, bike riding practice, and focusing the costume options. “One of my favorite parts of the process was the day that Mandy and I went through the costumes in her closet.” Amelia laughs, “It might not be obvious to the innocent observer but Mandy is one of those women who is a unique combination of class and whimsy. Her closet is a testament to the lighter side of her personality and what many people don’t know is that the majority of the crazy costumes in the video came from Mandy herself.”

Heading the production and direction of the video, Amelia gathered the rest of the crew consisting of: Director of Photography Justin Duval, Steadicam Operator Noah Dille, Camera Assistant Chris McKinley, 2nd Camera Carrie Carnivale, Assistant Director Andrew Sarno, Make-Up Laci Hill, Hair Iris Sanchez, EPK Director/Set Photographer Todd Jones.

Most of the video footage was filmed over two days in January of 2012 at four different locations in greater Los Angeles. “Amelia is such a sweetheart, that she insisted on making homemade personalized breakfast for the crew,” Miz Mandy added, “[and] as delicious as her breakfast was, Amelia shined at producing and directing.”

‘Rising Sun’ was shot on a Canon 7d with Zeiss Prime lenses, with custom equipment being built to accomplish the desired shots. Amelia explains, “Our rig was a platform built off the back of a jeep that combined a steadicam rig with climbing gear to keep our camera guy, Noah Dille safe from sliding around.”

Director of Photography Justin Duval confirms, “We decided to shoot the steadicam out of the back of my jeep because we wanted to have a smooth, polished look. We were fighting the style of the DSLR revolution, which tends to lend to a jerkier, hand-held look. By integrating the elaborate steadicam rig we were able to preserve a cinematic quality that I could be comfortable with.” http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0245050/

Day one of shooting occurred in the Castaic area north of Santa Clarita with a smaller cast and crew at sunrise. Day two was shot in downtown Los Angeles with the full crew and a cast of over fifty. Amelia states, “Not only did we have an excellent team with talent, drive and the skills to do the job well but we also surrounded ourselves with people who wanted to have fun too. Working with professionals who know how to do their job and enjoy themselves is a pleasure.”

But Amelia’s work was not yet done. She had a few final scenes to shoot for the video’s intro, which features the song’s producer, Ryan Franks. Amelia continues, “I’ve also had the pleasure of editing the footage together for the final product.” The video was edited and color corrected in the Final Cut 7.0 suite.

She continues, “Working with Mandy has been particularly rewarding. Not only is she extremely talented and beautiful but she possesses that ‘X Factor’ that so many other musicians lack… Drive. She has a strong understanding of the creative process and high standards for the final product which I really respect.”

“We took our time with the editing process, going back and forth on several aspects to get it just right,” said Miz Mandy. “It was great to work with Amelia through this phase as well. Her ultimate goal was to do the job right, no matter how long we took.” All in all, the editing, effects, and color correction process took several months to complete.

On Friday September 21st, at Cahuenga and Hollywood Boulevard, Saint Felix Hollywood will accommodate the pre-release party in a private room. Gayot restaurant guide says, “Expect a nightlife-centered evening scene with sexy decor, al fresco alley seating and handcrafted signature cocktails.” The event will include a red carpet entrance, the cast and crew of both music videos, which will be shown on a large projection screen and house speaker system. The event is from 8:30 – 11:30pm and is open to the public.

Please RSVP at https://www.facebook.com/events/465657580134123/

The ‘Rising Sun’ music video will have it’s official public release in the end of October with a red carpet event in San Diego. A separate press release regarding Miz Mandy’s ‘The Cat’s Pajamas’ music video will be distributed closer to that event.

Amelia closes, “Miz Mandy is a true artist and collaborator. In short, she’s a peach. I can’t wait to see what the future will bring for this young lady!”
